It is my First time hosting a workshop in front of strangers I don't know where i will teach them how to make a tote bag. I find the journey very fascinating as I would never imagine myself teaching in front of people I don't know. I am very thankful to have the opportunity to do things out of my comfort zone. I feel in life we get to do things we don't really want to because we don't know whether it will go well or not, or how and so on. We think of problems before they even arrive. This is when we first learn to protect ourselves before they come. Whether that is a good thing or bad thing, I don't really know but with this type of event, I am grateful to come to a point where I am well excited about it and can't wait to do it, but on the other side I keep asking myself "Am I ready, have I prepared myself, I need to buy this and that thing. I need to make sure things are all done" and so on - battlefield mindset kills.....
Doing this workshop not only challenges me to go out of my comfort zone, but it also teaches me how I can learn a new skill, or knowledge.. How I came about to start a workshop is also a very funny , of how it all started. A lovely friend of mine that I have known for years, told me "I cant wait for you to do a workshop and I will join it". I thought to myself "Me? How? Really?" When someone see something you don't see, is actually quite encouraging and nice. They may not know if I am a good sewer apart from knowing that I can sew. Even if I can sew can I teach?
I wondered for a bit before executing the idea. I then came to a point where I started looking into venues and a lady from a social/business community I am part of advertised about her space. I contacted her and then, I got in touch with her and it rolled on from there. I agreed to the plan and started planning and designing the leaflet. I tested the water to see if anyone would sign up. The worksop is not cheap but had to make sure Im covering my expenses and earning a little bit. I didn't see anyone signing up for days and thought of cancelling the event. When that mindset came into me, I saw one lady signed up and then I said to myself "OK! Let's DO IT" A day or 2 after another lady signed up. Im pretty much full now, as I can only have max 3-5 students. If I can have 1 more Perfect, if not that is also ok.
Lesson Learnt: When you are trying to give up one time after another from the start of the idea to the end, just hold on because it isn't how you would've imagined things to be
